Whether it’s because you love Roald Dahl stories, or the kids are currently reading one of his books or you want to develop some ICT skills and computing knowledge in a refreshing way, these activities will do nicely!
Resource 1: A Binary Pixel Art activity which introduces kids to the idea of Binary numbers and gives a quick introduction of how to convert Binary numbers to decimal numbers. Kids will then need to convert simple Binary numbers to decimal numbers for 10 Roald Dahl-themed designs to correctly color them in. There are also 2 additional templates for kids to create their own design and coded version.
Resource 2: This is a differentiated version of the above activity for kids who may find the Binary-decimal conversions too challenging. Nevertheless, they will still have some computing exposure through the understanding of computer images made from individual blocks of color, as well as ICT skills through the use of MS Excel tools.
Resource 3: This is the PDF printable version of Resource 1 for use in case of device / software shortage or in case of preference. (9 of the 10 designs as the 10th one was too big for an A4 printable)
Resource 4: These are the solutions of the 10 wonderful Roald Dahl-themed designs.
These are appropriate for primary aged kids up to secondary and even older as a couple of the designs are quite detailed!
You’ll enjoy them as much as Kids’ Printouts did creating them!

TWELVE quality wordsearch puzzles (in a zip file) based on key terms from six Roald Dahl Books:
Fantastic Mr Fox;
George’s Marvellous Medicine;
James and the Giant Peach;
Matilda;
The Magic Finger;
The Twits.
10-word and 30-word wordsearches for each story. (Simple differentiation / use depending on the time available.)
These were used with Year / Grade 5 children when they were reading Roald Dahl stories and they thoroughly enjoyed them (and older (or younger!) children will enjoy them too.) These were used in class as a starter, to support their recollection of events in the books, as well as to reinforce spellings. They were also used with students as part of World Book Day celebrations and as part of school library sessions to promote the love of reading.
This pack contains 4 separate activities.
The first is a 2-page activity, for which the kids need to name, trace and then design (colouring, painting, glittering etc) each of the featured dinosaurs (grey silhouettes). There is a table of names on page 2 which the kids can use to help them name the dinos. A file with the dinosaur silhouettes and their names is included.
The second two activities are wordsearches. One has 15 dinosaurs to find, and the other has 30 dinosaurs to find. Each one also features 5 black silhouettes of popular dinosaurs which the kids to try to name.
Wordsearches are a great way to reinforce key terms, enhance vocabulary, help with spelling as well as pattern recognition. They are great for the classroom, at home and events.
The last activity is a wonderful anagrams activity. The kids need to read the (often strange) set of words and then rearrange the letters to figure out the name of the dinosaur. ‘carpet riots’ anyone? (Answer file included)
Get the kids excited about the Paris Olympics 2024!

There is a name bank on page 2 to help them out!
There is a version 2, which helps out the kids with the starting letter of the sport - helpful as a differentiated version.
Answer file included.

The next 11 sheets are the individual dinosaurs enlarged on A4 files, with instructions suggesting that after naming and tracing the dinosaurs, they should get creative and colour and decorate, before writing 3 facts about the dinosaur. Surely these would make for a great wall display.
The last activity is a wonderful anagrams activity. The kids need to read the (often strange) set of words and then rearrange the letters to figure out the name of the dinosaur. ‘carpet riots’ anyone? (Answer file included)
This quiz can be used as a comprehension exercise where children watch the film “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” and then answer as many questions correctly as they can.
The adjusted / differentiated activity can be that the film is watched in two halves (or smaller chunks) to give children less to remember all at once and more of a chance to get all 18 questions correct!
This activity can also be an opportunity to practice spellings, learn something new (what exactly is a barnacle?) and most importantly, have fun! You can also encourage children to come up with their own questions to test others.
This is a suitable task for Grade 4 upwards (approximately 8+ years) and FYI the film has a PG rating. Answer sheet is included.
If not used for skills practice, just save it for a treat or a rainy day!

an enjoyable wordsearch for the 32 teams in the World Cup 2022 tournament

- Version 1 is 1 page, and will most likely require research for a few of the questions - good for a really challenging task! (They could always write their best guess)
-Version 2 has the questions more spaced out over two pages and also has an answer bank for kids to choose their answers from (although a couple of questions may still need some research :) )
With any of these activities, why not get the kids to also make their predictions for the World Cup 2022 Winners and Runners up? Maybe get a wall chart up as well :)
